It is a story of four friends who are living in the beautiful land of Kerala. The film begins with the eldest one, Appukuttan (Lal) having his daughter's wedding. Appukuttan requests that he should be the only person to know his daughter's marriage details. His wish is respected by everybody; even his son-in-law knows nothing about it.An old friend Thamprakashan (Jayaram) visits him and tells him about his health problems like high blood sugar levels which can make him disabled if not taken care at right time, but Appukuttan once again requests to know nothing about it. One day, Appukuttan's wife Kaithapram (Sowmya) asks him to take her daughter, Veenu's (Dia Mirza)mitro-jhiyala which is a mixture of rice flour, coconut milk and jaggery. The mixture is holy for women due to the presence of the 'mitro-jhiyala' in it. Appukuttan asks for a small piece, but Kaithapram asks him to take a big piece. He cannot take the big piece as he has a bet going with his friend Puliyan (Girish Karnad). Puliyan asked him to eat a big piece of this holy mixture if he wants to go to the temple with him, which is the only way for Appukuttan to see his daughter's marriage.Appukuttan knows that he cannot break his promises, so he goes to Puliyan's home with a small bowl of mixture. Puliyan agrees to take it in front of everyone present at his home. After leaving Puliyan's house, Appukuttan collapsed in the middle of the road, unable to move due to blood sugar level. This incident sparks off different stories in different people's minds including that of Kaithapram and Thamprakashan respectively. Kaithapram believes that Appukuttan has fallen into an accident, but doesn't have the confidence to tell it to his son-in-law. Instead, she goes to her sister's house knowing very well that her sister will tell her sister-in-law. She knows that, her nephew will inform his parents about it and finally his father will go to know about it. When Kaithapram reaches her sister's house, she overhears an argument between Thamprakashan and his daughter Bindu (Keerthi Suresh). Thamprakashan scolds Bindu for being flirtatious with a newcomer newcomer Murali (Samuthirakani) in the neighborhood. Bindu's mother (Lekha) supports her daughter and argues with Thamprakashan. Kaithapram feels sad for Bindu. Thamprakashan and Kaithapram go to the hospital where Appukuttan is admitted, but they come to know that Appukuttan has fallen into a pond of water. They get shocked. The doctor tells them that he didn't sustain any severe wounds and his blood sugar level was too high which affected his senses, making him walk on the middle of the road.Four days pass- by quickly and Veenu's marriage is fixed with Murali's brother Prasad (Gadda Jayaprakash).
